App Marketing Strategy #1 – Social Media

As an App Developer, I’m constantly in search of new, exciting, and efficient App Marketing Strategies to promote my Apps. Over the years, I’ve tried and tested multiple strategies; on average, out of every 10 strategies, only 1 or 2 tend to work. The others are just expense/cost of doing business. There seems to be an overwhelming perception out there in the App Development Community that says: “Develop a good App and they’ll download.” – That statement is absolutely false and the farthest from reality. No matter how good the App, if you don’t spend enough time on the Promotion and Marketing, your App will be ostracized and left for dead. It happens all the time. Heck, it’s happened to me – some of the best Apps that I’ve ever created were a huge financial failure. I never made more than $10 to $20 per month on those Apps. Yet, despite this stark and brutal reality, there are Apps on the iTunes App Store that make $1,000 to $2,000 per day – how they do it is anybody’s guess, but for the most part, the Apps that are usually successful spend a lot of Time and Money on marketing their product and creating brand awareness. The theory is simple: The more money you spend, the more money you’ll eventually get. But the problem with this theory is, in order to spend more money; you first need to have more money. Because of this, a lot of App Developers quit and give up on their dream of making a living from selling Apps.

App Store Social Media

With that said, there is one App Marketing Strategy that everyone can use, irrespective of the money one has in their bank accounts: Social Media Marketing. All you need is to be a bit smart and creative, and you can create some really cool, high-traffic viral marketing for your Apps. The marketing campaigns for each App are different, so there is no one-size-fits-all solution here. You need to be creative and use the power of Social Media to drive up your App Sales.

The use of Smartphones has witnessed an exponential increase in the recent years.  The popularity of Smartphones can very well be linked with their capability to act as communication devices and for other uses.  Just like other ordinary phones, Smartphones also enable communication despite the communicating parties being very far away from each other. In Business, Smartphones are widely used to communicate with business partners.

Today’s range of Smartphones comes equipped with thousands of applications to entertain their users. Modern smart phones, on top of all these in-built applications, also run a horde of free and paid applications. The app-driven life has kick-started a new computer revolution; one that has spread faster and become more intimate than any before. Smartphones have transformed the single-minded cell phone into a mobile personal computer (Zheng & Ni, 2010).

Smartphones applications enable social media networks to conduct business on a wider scale. These Smartphone apps have also allowed business to be conducted in non-traditional ways. Employees are now able to conduct business through their phones no matter where they are at. Several Smartphone apps assist people in multi-tasking more efficiently. In fact, small businesses can run almost every aspect of their company from their Smartphones. On the other side, we will find users for whom Smartphones are solely an entertainment tool.
Users can play advanced computer games on their Smartphones, they can watch and download movies and listen to stored music or opt for radio stations through the use of these apps. Equipped with superior capabilities to access the internet, these smartphones apps can be used for searching for information on almost every aspect of life. With these apps its users can read news online according to their interest areas; be it sports, politics or entertainment news.

The future looks very promising for the Smartphones. There is no doubt that these smartphones applications make our lives easier. However, much of the Smartphone’s capabilities revolve around the applications that it offers. These apps are very important in determining the future of a Smartphone. It is these apps that give Smartphones an extra edge that ordinary phones do not have.
