Beware of Free Game Apps

I guess the title of this post says it all. The point is, all these so called ‘Free Game Apps’ on the iTunes App Store are not really FREE, but just simple decoys for unsuspecting users to download them, and then be bombarded with hoards of annoying Advertisements and In-App-Purchases. It’s the art of deception at its best.

I’m a GAMER. Whenever I’m not shooting enemy soldiers on my Sony Play station (Call of Duty and Modern Warfare), I like to play games on my iPhone, as I cannot carry my Play station with me everywhere I go. Every once in a while, I get bored of a certain game, and I’m constantly searching for new ones, to keep myself engaged. Now, a lot of games on the iTunes App Store are REALLY expensive, and include numerous In-App-Purchases to unlock key features; many people might get discouraged by this and instead go shopping for FREE GAMES, only to find out that the Free Games aren’t really free after all.

You’d be surprised at the amount of bogus gaming apps listed on The iTunes App Store, created solely for the purpose of tricking a user into downloading them, and opening them at least once. Because every time a user opens one of these bogus apps, there are greeted with a zillion ads, thus resulting in impressions, which result in more money being deposited in the App seller’s account. To add to the user’s misery, these advertisements are usually large banner that occupy the entire screen; so the only way a user can close the banners, is by clicking on them, which again results in more money being deposited in the App seller’s account.

Now, I’m not saying that all FREE APPS are bad. There are thousands of good apps out there that are offered for free, and have non-intrusive advertisements; it’s just that they are a bit hard to find.

In conclusion, I’ll just say this:

Beware of “Free Game Apps”. Make sure you read all the reviews carefully and also the aggregate rating of the app, and only then decide if you want to go ahead and download the app. Otherwise, you’re better off paying for an app, especially gaming apps since that category is loaded with bogus apps.
